So I initially made this recipe because I was making something else which required chocolate syrup… and in true Trina fashion, I was unprepared and didn’t have any in the house. I know, how is that even possible!? So, resourceful little me thought how hard could making chocolate syrup actually be? I turned to the web and found a recipe for homemade chocolate syrup… but again I didn’t have the exact amount of ingredients on hand so I readjusted my quantities and hoped for the best. W
This Chocolate Syrup Recipe Is Way Better Than The Store Stuff!
Like I said above I made this recipe because I needed chocolate syrup in another recipe. I was originally just going to add the chocolate syrup recipe into the same post as my other recipe… that was until I tasted it! Oh man – this homemade chocolate syrup tastes unreal. And I think that an unreal recipe is deserving of a post of its own! It’s way better than the stuff you buy at the store. And bonus – it contains 5 ingredients (all which you can pronounce). So the next time you need chocolate syrup, try and make it yourself.
Homemade Chocolate Syrup
Yields 1 cup of chocolate syrup
In a medium-sized saucepan, stir together the cocoa powder and sugar until well blended.
Add the water, salt, and vanilla. Bring to a boil over medium heat, whisking constantly.
Continue boiling and stirring until mixture thickens, usually about 3 – 4 minutes. The mixture will be fairly thin (it will thicken to a syrup-like consistency once cooled).
Remove from heat and cool. Store the syrup in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator. When refrigerated it will keep for at least a month. Enjoy!

You Can Use This Stuff On Anything!
After making this chocolate syrup recipe, just to make sure that this stuff really was the real deal I did a highly scientific chocolate type “litmus” test. I tried it over ice cream – and yep, this chocolate syrup recipe is the real deal. It’s a KEEPER. I’m positive this stuff would taste good on almost anything!

I’m sure that I don’t have to explain the many uses of chocolate syrup. I specifically made this chocolate syrup recipe to use in homemade Irish cream (keep watching the blog because I’ll be posting it soon). But after tasting it, I’m sure it will become a refrigerator staple. So the next time you’re in need of chocolate syrup, try this homemade chocolate syrup recipe. It’s so easy to make and really does taste a million times better than any than the store-bought stuff.
